(Belated) January Mix
Well, after a January lost to the whims of indulgence and lurgy, allow me to offer a belated Happy New Year and welcome back to Clockwork Shorts.
My monthly mix series continues with a 70min mix which I hope will delight your eardrums at least once!
Recently I’ve been re-listening to old mixes from techno stalwarts like Modeselektor and King Cannibal, so I suppose there’s a techno-y influence on what has gone into this. It’s hard to put an exact “genre stamp” on this one, but I’d say it’s 50% Minimal, and 50% Funky, so for the purposes of copyright & pidgeonholing, let’s call it “MINKY.”
Warm fat basslines, emotive strings and funky percussive rhythms, there’s something about this mix which is evocative of getting lost in one’s own headspace.. potentially on a big dark dancefloor in the small hours of a Sunday morning.. And yet I must say I surprised myself at how . . . restrained . . it all sounds, and not a little bit Lush.
